Do you ever get in that mood where
you feel like nothing good is happening in your life? Does it seem like
everyone else is getting all the “big breaks”? Rather than hosting a pity-party
in honor of yourself, you need to put one foot in front of the other to get
moving to figure out how to make things happen for yourself. Whatever your “It”
is…you can do something to help make it happen.
God doesn’t steer a stalled car. Your
“It” is just like a car that can’t move unless you have gas in the tank, the motor
running and the accelerator down. Once you get moving, God can guide you where
He wants you to be. Sometimes it is where you want to go and sometimes He has
different plans for you. Once I understood this…my life changed forever.
I am an entrepreneur. Like so many
others, I run my business out of my house. There are days when I make a list of
10 things that I need to get done for my business and I end up getting 1 thing
done on the list which drives me crazy. Computers crash, internet goes out,
kids get sick and unexpected work issues come up. That’s life, right? Are there
days where I want to host my own pity party, eat ice cream out of the container
and watch the latest re-runs on Bravo? Yes. Ok, to be honest, I have done this
a few times, but if I did this all the time then my business wouldn’t move
forward. I could not share my message that helps small business owners grow
their businesses.
I definitely have days where I feel
like I am being guided by something much bigger than myself. I am just putting
my foot on the accelerator while God takes over the wheel. (Side note: I am singing Carrie Underwood’s song, “Jesus Take the
Wheel” in my head right now…which all of a sudden makes total sense to me).
Sometimes it is just all you have to do just one small thing that will help you
accomplish the bigger “It” in your life.
What is an “It” in your life right
now? One of mine was to write a book. I always wanted to do that…to share what
I have learned about leading virtual teams with other women in the world. I am
happy to say that I recently finished the book, “The Boss in Bunny Slippers: A
Woman’s Guide to Leadership Success…All While Working from Home”. It’s not easy
to write a book for someone like me who has a million things going on. It was
an “It” that I wanted to make happen. Writing a book is something that requires
serious focus and what I refer to as “block time” to get it done. A book
doesn’t write itself…which now I understand why it takes a year to write one. I
had to be constantly writing, maneuvering roadblocks (there were over 5
versions of the cover alone!) and researching. All of this while juggling my
“normal” business consulting job, being a wife and a mom of 3 young boys…and
all the other things that are necessary in life. Whew! I am exhausted just
re-living it in my mind.
I truly believe that God puts
amazing people in my life for a reason. My faith continues to inspire me to do
my best in all aspects of my life. By no means is “It” perfect but I have
learned to enjoy the ride, navigate the twists and turns and continue to learn
more and more each and every day.
