Last month, I taught a worksho on time management and I thought it would be helpful to recap some of those hints and helps for all the blog readers out there....if you missed out on the workshop, stay tuned for information on the next one.
As I evaluate the time management issue, it seems to me that we have all bought into the lie that we can balance our time. Really, what we do and what the world tells us to do is juggle not balance.
Infact, balancing our time and priorities means that we have to devote equal time and energy to all parts of our life. Well, common sense should tell you that isn't possible. If we work 8 hours a day, we can't also spend 8 hours a day cleaning the house, 8 hours a day with our kids, 8 hours a day running errands and 8 hours a day for ourselves. No, the balance thing is a lie. There isn't balance because we couldn't possibly offer the same time to everything.
We can, however, have harmony.
All things working together in their given time and given space. Harmony. Just the sound of the word evokes peace and serenity. What if we approached our to-do lists with the mindset of harmony. Harmony - not balance. Harmony means that you exist in the moment, you enjoy the present and you give your all to whatever area you are in at that time. Harmony means elements come together to make a beautiful life....a peaceful life.
This is biblical...peace and harmony. See what the Word says:
Psalm 29:11
The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.
Psalm 34:14
Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
Acts 2:43-45
And all the believers lived in a wonderful harmony, holding everything in common.
1 Corinthians 14:26-33
When we worship the right way, God doesn't stir us up into confusion; he brings us into harmony.
2 Corinthians 13:11-13
And that's about it, friends. Be cheerful. Keep things in good repair. Keep your spirits up. Think in harmony. Be agreeable. Do all that, and the God of love and peace will be with you for sure.
