It's in the details

I asked in the last post...What are you praying for? How did you answer that question? Better yet, how specific was your answer?

Typically we would say our answer would have been something like.... "a better job." How vague and boring. Don't get me wrong, wanting a better job is not a bad thing...praying for a better job is not a bad thing. However, what God shows us in scripture is that asking him for specifics is what generates excitement.

God wants us to define and pinpoint the promises we want to stake claim to, the miracles God wants you to believe for and the dreams God wants you to pursue. The next step is to keep focusing on those truths and promises until God makes good on them.

Here's the problem: Most of us don't get what we want simply because we don't know what we want.

There's a scene from one of my favorite movies, "P.S. I Love You," where the two main characters are talking and the man asks in a desperate and frustrated tone, "What do women want? What is it that you people want?" Hilary Swank, the star of the movie says, "I'll tell you, but you have to swear to not say anything..... We have absolutely no idea what we want."

How true is that for us as believers. We don't really know what we want. We've never read God's promises and said, "Yep. That's for me... that's what I want." We've never written down a list of life goals or dreams. We've never defined success for ourselves.

How many times in scripture do we see Jesus encounter someone with a need and He asks them, "What is it you want?" "What do you want me to do for you?" "How can I help you?" If Jesus was standing infront of you right now.... could you answer that question? Could you tell him, specifically and in detail, what it is you expect Him to do for you?

We have no idea what we want God to do for us. And the great irony is that if we can't answer this question, then we are spiritually blind and wandering without hope. Previously I had shared Romans 8:31 - if God is for us, who then can be against us?  So if God is for us, doesn't it seem important for us to have an idea what we want God to do for us?

If faith is being sure of what we hope for, then being unsure of what we hope for is the oppposite of faith, right? Well-developed faith results in a well-defined prayer. Well-defined prayers result in a well-defined life. We see the evidence of this truth over and over in scripture.

Obviously the answer to our question will change over time and with our stages of life. That is ok. Don't just read the Bible...start praying the promises you read.
Don't just make a wish... write down a list of God-glorifying life goals
Don't just pray...keep a prayer journal

Define your dream. Claim your promise. Spell our your miracle.

What is it you are praying for?
