Not enough string to tie these loose ends
Something you might not know about me is I am a great starter. As I shared in the previous blog post, I like change. I like to start new things. I get invigorated by starting a new job, a new project, and yes... a new workout routine.
However, something else you might not know about me is that I am a horrible finisher. I have started and stopped a hundred and one things in my life. Raise your hand if you've bought the latest and greatest DVD promising to shake off unwanted pounds in 12 weeks... the greatest challenge...getting to week 12! How many of us have had great intentions only to make it to week 2. (Heck, I'll be honest...only to make it to DAY 2....lol)
I know the aftermath of being a great starter but a bad finisher.....left with lots of loose ends that need to be tied up or cut off. Sometimes its easy get hung up in all those loose ends. As we hang dangling from the tangled mess, it becomes apparent to all those observing that we don't have it all together.
Can I give you permission... permission to not have it all together! It's OK to not have all the answers, to be flawed, to be human! It's OK if the laundry is still sitting in the dryer and dinner is missing a starch choice and the DVR didn't get programmed for the game. You are not diminished as a mother, wife, employee, friend, neighbor, daughter, sister, woman or girlfriend simply because you're not perfect.
You are flawed.... but your are fabulous. Stand proud in the midst of your strengths, but also embrace your weaknesses. Know your limitations and don't be afraid to let them be part of who you are. You do not have to be all things to all people....you just have to be you!
I don't really know who needs to read this message today.....I know this is a recurring theme I've needed to remind myself of several times this week. Last summer I interviewed a father who juggled being a dad, a husband and a principal at a new school. It was a demanding life I am sure, but one thing he said to me in that interview that has stuck with me....
Things don't have to be perfect for them to be really good.
Enjoy the really good. Let go of perfection and appearance. It's OK to have some loose ends. Heck, check Pintrest...I am sure there's a craft project perfect for those loose ends -- just waiting for me to not finish...lol
