Have you had those times in life where you need to just get away and recharge the batteries? When life seems to consume every part of you and you just need for it to stop? I think we all have had those times when we need to slow down, take a breath and begin to feed our souls.
This Labor Day weekend I went camping with a group of people. As crazy as it may sound, it was a chance to recharge and relax. Camping is a lot of work, but somehow in the middle of it all, there's a sense of refocus and refueling the soul. I think part of that is being immersed in nature.
Our location of choice for camping was France Park, Indiana. Trees encapsulated beautiful lakes, flowing creeks and rock formations that made you stand in awe. The lake at France Park was an accident. A former rock quarry, workers hit an underground river spring that flooded the quarry over night drowning some equipment and thus, forming the lake that now is home to some interesting wildlife and fish.
The "accident" which formed the lake made me stop and give thanks for the reminder that even in the middle of tragedy, something beautiful can form. I was swimming in the lake, sort of out in the deeper part of the designated swimming area, taking in the cliffs and rock formations that encircle the lake. It is a unique sight. But it was one that made me recognize that beauty is found in unlikely places...even in a flooded quarry.
The group of us went hiking along the cliffs and through the woods. It was labor intensive, but there was something empowering having conquered the hike. Steep climbs, narrow passages and death-defying heights made my adrenaline rush. It was invigorating and again, the scenes were breath taking.
But there was a moment during the weekend that made me stop and recognize how small I am. While walking back to the campsite one night, I caught a glimpse of the sky. Thousands of stars were strewn across the blackness. It was gorgeous. The beauty of what was thousands of miles away seemed to remind me that my life, my problems, my issues are handled and cared for by a God that is much bigger than I can imagine. It made me stop and think that if God could find a home, a specific placement, for each one of the thousands of stars I could see and thousands more I couldn't, He could surely take care of me.
Sometimes recharging doesn't have to come from standing still. Sometimes putting motion to your emotion makes you awaken the soul and resurge life into what might have been choked out before.
Camping wore me out...no doubt. But at the same time it recharged my batteries. It had been too long since I had a change of scenery. Recharge. Refuel. Reinvigorate.....the "re" message is the whole point to reVision. Nothing is done until its done. There is always a new day, a new start, a new chance to create the life you want, go for the dream you have and generate the positive legacy you long for!
