4:8 Principle -- Starting with the mind

"I believe the choice to be excellent begins with aligning your thoughts and words with the intention to require more from yourself." -- Oprah Winfrey

Where you have been, what you have done and where you are now matters far less than where you are headed. You can't change the past or travel back in time to correct mistakes. You can, however, make positive choices for a better tomorrow and focus on good, noble, right, pure and honest things. This is the challenge we find in Phillipians 4:8.

Although changing the way our minds work can seem challenging, the best part of Phillipians 4:8 is that we do have a choice. We can choose to think on positive things. Inevitably, life is filled with peaks and valleys. But even in the valleys, there will always be something working really well in your life; and even on the mountain peaks, everything in your life will not be perfect. Life is always a mixture of good and bad. We simply have to choose which part to focus on.

You tell me -- what statements would you prefer to think?

  • That always happens
  • I hate myself
  • I'm not worthy
  • I can't
  • That's just who I am

Or....

  • I now accept the best life has to offer
  • I am responsible and capable
  • I am loved
  • I'm making progress
  • I am getting better

If you dwell on your strengths, blessings, goals and the people who love you,  you will start to notice positive blessings in your life. You will feel supercharged to go after even more positive blessings in your life. You will step on the negative weight that slows you down and overcome mediocrity. The choice is yours.
