I believe in the power of prayer. I think that's the way most church-going, Bible-believing, God-fearing believers feel....we believe in the power of prayer. We pray in church on Sunday, before our meals, before drift off to sleep, as a family member enters the surgical ward, before a big job interview.... we pray.
But I want to take you on a journey to re-package our prayers with a punch of power. Not just believing that when we pray, God hears...but bolding expecting God to move on our behalf. I am sure that we will learn a lot about God's view on prayer. No doubt our perspective of prayer will shift. I would even venture to say that through this journey, we will find our time spent in prayer increases, our content deepens and our faith is strengthened. Are you ready?
Bold prayers honor God, and God honors bold prayers. God isn't offended by your biggest dreams or boldest prayers. He is offended by anything less. If your prayers aren't impossible to you, they are insulting to God. Why? Because small pray requests don't require divine intervention.
If you were a part of reVision's previous online series, "God said...I promise," then you learned that God loves keeping his promises, answering prayers, performing miracles and fulfilling dreams. That is who He is and what He does. The greatest moments in life are the miraculous moments when human impotence and divine omnipotence intersect.
My all time favorite verse is from Romans 8:31 - "If God is for us, who then can be against us?" What a powerful truth to stand on....God is for us. God is for me. God is for you. He's cheering us on. He wants to see us succeed. He wants us to be happy, purposeful, fulfilled. If we really believe that God is for us, then we will prayer big, bold prayers.
Prayers change the trajectory of our lives...the question is, are we praying big prayers or small prayers. Who you and I become is determined by how you pray. Ultimatley, the transcript of our prayers become the script of our lives.
Now let me just set the record straight. Prayer isn't some magic trick we perform nor is it a manipulation tool for us to get God to do something for us or give us certain things. It is about us communicating in a way that is in line with what His sovereign plan is and what He wants and wills.
How can you determine what He wants and wills.... hang with me, we'll cover that. In the meantime, just believe that until His sovereign will becomes our sanctified wish, our prayer lives will be unplugged from its power supply. Getting what you want is not the goal...the goal is to glorify God by praying boldly on the promises He has already told us, the miracles we need from Him and the dreams He has for us.
