Sometimes life is all about the fun of skating and other times it's about the fear of the ice cracking under our feet.
God's promises never fail and neither does His love for us. He is always good.
Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose."
When God promises to always be good, we do not have to despair, worry or stress out over our problems, circumstances or futures. But this promise asks us to commit to a deeper concept of God. No matter what the degree of our need, God supplies a promise that meets that need and beyond.
With this promise, we get to God's heart. Not only is He with me; not only is He in control and ordering the circumstances of my life, but God is good. God's goodness is the ultimate rescue net under all of life's experiences.
Psalm 27:13 says, "I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living."
Despair is an utterly and enduringly dark place. It's a place of no light, no hope... It is defined as a destitute of positive expectations. However, getting a hold of God's goodness and His promises can shine light in that dark despair.
**God's goodness is something He wants us to experience.... Psalm 34:8 tells us to "taste and see that the Lord is good." He wants us to know His goodness in a way that we can actually taste it, touch it, embrace it, experience it.
**God's goodness is all over what He does.... Psalm 145:9 says, "The Lord is good to all and His mercy is over all that He has made." He may not move at the speed I desire or always answer in the way I wish, but I never have to doubt the goodness of His intentions and actions on my behalf.
**God's goodness may not be immediately obvious.... Lamentations 3:25 says, "The Lord is good to those who wait for Him." Even His timetable is good, but we can only see this after events have transpired. Our response must be that we trust His promise to give us good things even if the timeframe is questionable or the path doesn't make sense.
Above all the how's and why's in life.... among all the questions left without answers, God's goodness remains. His plans are good. His promises are good. His purposes are good.
Rehearse in your mind the situations in your life right now that are "in process." They may be difficult, or unknown, or not going as you would dream they would. They're the big things, the situations that keep you up at night. With those circumstances in mind, say by faith:
"Even though today _________ (name the situation), I will not despair because I believe God is good and that He will work all things together for my good and His glory."
Commit to memory Romans 8:28 "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."
Thank you! This is just want I needed to read right now. I am anxious, worried but I need to trust and Believe. It can sometimes be an uphill battle but I am grateful that you have shared your thoughts and life with me today! It is a relief knowing that others struggle and are humble enough to talk about it - which helps me.
ReplyDeleteHang in there, Mary Kay. It's hard to see past the waves of emotions that hit us such as anxiety and worry, but God's love for us and His good and perfect plans for us don't shift or change. When the ground is shaky, get to God's higher plains. They are always stable and certain. You get there with prayer to communicate your need and an open heart to accept His response. Remember to overwrite the lies we believe because of our emotions and circumstances....overwrite them with the truth that you find in God's word.
